HIGHCLERE CASTLE BOOK AWARDS


Entries are now open for the Highclere Castle Book Readers' awards sponsored by Viking. Viking, a global leader in experiential travel, is proud to support Highclere Castle, one of its long-standing cultural partners.   

The awards, now in their second year, offer avid readers the opportunity to review a book, which has been particularly memorable or inspiring to them. Readers are invited to review the book of their choice including a recently published novel, a non-fiction title or a renowned classic from one of five categories including:


  • Travel:- aimed at the adventurer, anything from a travelogue to a classic guide book.
  • Biographies:- a book about a favourite hero, icon, author or historical figure.
  • History:- this category includes social history, ancient or modern, military history or personal diaries.
  • Novels:- a classic or a favourite piece of contemporary fiction.
  • Children’s books:- a classic or a contemporary children’s story.

The winner of each category will be presented with a prize of £500 with the five runners-up taking home £100. Reviews between 500 and 700 words will be accepted and entries must be submitted to [email protected]. Terms and conditions for entrants can be found below. Entries close on Friday 6 September and winners will be notified before the prize presentation by Lady Carnarvon and representatives from Viking on Sunday 6 October at the Highclere Castle History Festival.



TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY


  • Please ensure that you have read the Terms and Conditions of Entry, including the opening and closing dates for your submission.
  • Please clearly identify the category for which you wish to submit your entry and the name and author of the book.
  • Please ensure your entry is between 500 and 700 words.
  • The email address for each submission is [email protected]. You may only choose one category and contribute one entry.
  • The entry may be handwritten or typed and must be in English. Appreciation will be given for grammar, punctuation and spelling as well as the review.
  • Please submit your address and phone number on your entry (this will not be used for any purpose outside this specific competition).
  • The winner may be required to take part in media interviews and promotional material.
  • Each entrant must affirm it is their own work and may be asked to speak about the book they have reviewed.
  • The prize and competition are not open to employees, or their immediate families, from Highclere Castle and associated Highclere Businesses or those from Viking.
  • The decisions of the judges are final. Neither discussion nor correspondence concerning any decision can be entered into.


Highclere Enterprises LLP reserves the right to either include or refuse any entry for any reason considered justifiable, and reserves the right to vary the Terms & Conditions of Entry and alter the published programme, as may be deemed necessary to ensure the proper administration and integrity of the Readers' Awards and where required for reasons beyond the control of Highclere Enterprises LLP.
